Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School provides a strong curriculum for its 950 students. The curriculum is rewritten every six years to remain current, to meet state requirements, and to provide students with the necessary tools to achieve success in the workplace and at the university level. There are 567 sections of 183 courses in basic core areas and in a wide variety of electives. In grades 7 and 8, there are three levels of courses in math and English designed to help students to succeed at their level of competency. World languages are part of the curriculum at the exploratory level for most 7th graders and at the high school level for most 8th graders. High school math acceleration is provided for any students who have shown mastery. A comprehensive guidance curriculum and advisor program assists junior high students to adjust to the secondary school concept.

In grades 9 through 12, students are given course options at the Berks Career and Technology Center, as well as within the school. There are 30 designated honors courses in eight disciplines and 12 Advanced Placement courses. In the 2003-04 school year, there were 221 AP exams given to 104 students and the average score (1-5) was a 4.1. On an annual basis, Wyomissing Area has the highest number of National Merit recognized students in Berks County. In 2003-04 there were four semi-finalists and six Letters of Commendation. The average Wyomissing Area SAT score was 571 in math and 562 in verbal (Pa. averages are 502 and 500 respectively). The strong curriculum, the excellent teaching and guidance staff, and the educationally oriented community are responsible for the post-secondary success of our graduates, whether at selective colleges or in the workplace.

Wyomissing Area Jr/Sr High School is proud of its achievements in athletic and extracurricular arenas. Our sports teams are traditionally some of the best in Berks County and, often, in the state. Many of our clubs reach the state or national level. Our Model UN, Moot Court participants, school artists, and the Math Club successfully compete within the state and nationally. During the 2003-04 school year, six juniors were selected for the prestigious Pennsylvania Governors’ Schools held in the summer at Pennsylvania universities. The Wyomissing Area choral and band programs travel to competitions throughout the United States to assure our musical students of the highest level of play.
