Elizabeth Luyben, a senior and National Honor Society (NHS) member at Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School, has been named one of 575 national semifinalists in the National Honor Society Scholarship program. Elizabeth was chosen from more than 11,000 applicants and will receive a $3,200 scholarship.
High school seniors who are members in good standing of an active National Honor Society chapter can apply for an NHS Scholarship. Finalists are selected for their leadership skills; participation in service organizations, clubs, and other student groups at school and in the community; and their academic record. As a semifinalist, Elizabeth is recognized as one of the top 575 NHS members in the nation this school year.
Outside the classroom, Elizabeth has been an active member of the Service Club (president), Chorus (vice president), Chorale, Camerata (Co-director), Orchestra (cello), County and District Chorus, Spanish Club (president), Spanish Honor Society, Science Olympiad, volleyball team, bowling team, track and field, Model UN (officer), Girls on the Run, peer tutoring, National Honor Society (secretary), and peer mediation.
