Jr./Sr. High School Students Partner with WHEC Library

After 24 years of teaching Mrs. Andrea Boerger transitioned this year to the Librarian role at the Wyomissing Hills Elementary Center. Time in the library is a special and important part of the school day for our students at WHEC, and Mrs. Boerger identified a way to partner with the Jr./Sr. High School to ensure that our younger Spartans have unique opportunities while getting the support they need during library time.
High school students in the National Honor Society are participating in a valuable volunteer opportunity with the WHEC library. These students spend time reading to children, rewarding good behaviors with grad tickets, stocking books on the library shelves, organizing the library, and checking out books for the elementary students.
Senior Adie Mathis attended and shared that she “loved talking to the kids” and senior Maya Smerek said “I enjoyed developing my leadership skills” by volunteering in the library. Overall, this experience is beneficial for elementary and high school students alike and builds connections in our Spartan community. We hope the success of this partnership allows us to continue to offer this opportunity in the future.
