She was excited to be placed in Stephanie Zechman’s first-grade classroom. And Mrs. Zechman’s students enjoy having Nyah in class. When she enters the room, little voices joyfully call out her name to welcome her.

"Just Drive" PSA Video Contest

As an assignment for their Multimedia III class, juniors Peter Hafer, Michael Smerek, Ian Brunner, and Dayne Yourkavitch entered their original 30-second public service announcement (PSA) in the NJM Insurance Group’s inaugural "Just Drive" PSA Video Contest. The contest, sponsored in partnership with the Pennsylvania DUI Association, offers students an opportunity to get creative while spreading awareness about the importance of establishing safe driving habits.

Elizabeth Luyben, a senior and National Honor Society (NHS) member at Wyomissing Area Junior/Senior High School, has been named one of 575 national semifinalists in the National Honor Society Scholarship program. Elizabeth was chosen from more than 11,000 applicants and will receive a $3,200 scholarship.

The LOVE Team of West Reading presented a check to the West Reading Elementary Center and the Wyomissing Area Education Foundation (WAEF) representing the proceeds from this past fall’s Giving Goes Glam fundraiser, held at the Neag Planetarium on October 3, 2018. These funds were used to purchase 35 ukuleles and lesson books for students at the school. WAEF is grateful for the support of the LOVE Team!

WYOAREA High School’s Mini-THON Exceeds

On March 2 and 3, Wyomissing Area Senior High School hosted its seventh annual Mini-THON. Based on the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, more commonly known as THON, the Wyomissing Area Mini-THON has raised more than $250,000 since it began. Proceeds are donated to Four Diamonds Fund, which fights against pediatric cancer.

Students Bring History to Life at Wax Museum

Students brought history to life by portraying famous historical figures at the 2019 West Reading Elementary Center Wax Museum. Sixth-grade students posed as wax statues until visitors activated their station by dropping a coin into a bag. Once their station was activated, the students began to move and talk, presenting a dramatic living biography complete with props and beautifully decorated backdrops.

It has been discovered that the millage rate was rounded inaccurately on the 2018 real estate tax bills issued on July 1, 2018. The millage rate that appeared on the 2018 real estate tax bill was 30.668. The correct millage rate should have been 30.6678. The rounding of the millage resulted in a slight over taxation that ranges from $.00 to $1.00, depending on assessed value of the property.

Construction Begins at JSHS

Phase II of the Wyomissing Area JSHS construction project will begin on the last student day of the 2017–18 academic year. This phase includes infrastructure upgrades such as replacing HVAC from the 1990s, replacing ceiling tiles, changing carpeted classrooms to tile, painting classrooms, installing security locks, and converting classroom lighting to LED.
